GROUP 2:
CASE OVERVIEW
Vijay is bright student since school days with aspirations to
grow and learn.
His initial two years seems to have been absorbed more in
learning than in contributing with intermittent exposure to short
term projects.
He started preparing for CAT and took leave on false medical
grounds.
When he was confronted to establish his innocence, he started
blaming the company and its people.
ISSUES IN THE CASE
Vijays expectations from the company did not match
his own skills.
Less involvement of new entrants in long term
projects.
Long period in benches demotivated Vijay.
Unclear leave and absent policies for employees.
Erroneous appraisal system.
WHO IS AT FAULT?
Organizational Fault: Vijays Faults :
Inability of Project leaders to
motivate employees
Management is at fault for
prolonging the issue with several
meetings
Misuse of performance appraisal
as punishment.
Employees with high potential
made to sit on bench
Verbal communication about
leave instead of written.
Lying to the HR about his
operation.
He did not seem to step back and
reflect his wrong doing.
Never thought from
organization's point of view.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Involvement of employees in training or activities during bench time.
Transparency in HR policies and leave allotments
Proper training should be imparted to employees the way the behave with
others.
Should have given warning letter rather than giving bad appraisal as
punishment.
Building trust environment.
Special leave management system for CAT aspirants.
Commence a buddy program - where people like Vijay can freely talk to
leaders in the company and discuss issues in an open and honest way.
