ISTE STANDARDS FOR

TEACHERS
A Reflection on Growth
IDT 3600
By Rahja Jones
1. Facilitate and inspire student learning and
creativity
o During this session I have had the opportunity to learn about the importance of
technology in the classroom. Technology continues to grow as a means for us to
communicate with the world and creates similar lines of communication back in the
form of education.

o This summer I have used my prior knowledge of working in Special Education as a
perspective to look for different ways technology can assist all learners.

o I have had the chance to work with young minds thru my field experience, where I
was able to support and model creative and innovative thinking assisting students
with Project Green City.

o I was able to engage students who were exploring real-world issues like water
conservation, and turbine wind power.

o I even had the chance to work collaboratively with students as I learned how to
create robots and program them to carry out various functions, I have witnessed our
future Dreamers, Thinkers, Doers.
2. Design and develop digital age learning
experiences and assessments
o While completing my assignments I had the opportunity to develop, and
design my own lesson plans, trying to create new learning experiences and
ways to assess mastery of objectives.

o I was able to develop enriched technological environments that allowed
students to be creative while still connecting with lesson objectives.

o I learned the importance of using contemporary tools a well as appropriate
technology so students can get the most out of assignments with out
interfering with the context of the lesson.

o Completing several of the assignments I gained understanding of the
importance of customizing lessons to address the diverse learning styles of
students. No two learners are the same, it is necessary to create a positive
learning environment for all students.
3. Model digital age work and learning
o Throughout this course I have been challenged to learn more and increase my
fluency in technology. I was able to apply what I was learning in new ways to
increase my ability to handle new situations and incorporate new technology
when appropriate.

o I have a greater respect for the community of Educators as a whole, now
recognizing the collaborative efforts of students, peers, parents, and the
community using technological resources to increase students chances of being
successful.

o I am now more equipped to effectively use current real-world technology to
locate, analyze and evaluate useful information to inspire future learning.

o I have a better understanding of using technology to communicate relevant
information with students and parents keeping them informed of anything that
could be beneficial to the learning process.
4. Promote and model digital citizenship and
responsibility
o I understand the importance of the ethical use of digital information and
technology. In one of our discussion we wrote about the appropriate use of
the Internet. This also goes for respect of others copyrighted or intellectual
property as it comes to documentation of sources.

o Using our discussion boards I have had the chance to engage with my
fellow students from other cultures, communicating and collaborating to ask
questions and give feedback.

o I am grateful for the opportunity to have learned about addressing the
diverse needs of all learners by using student focused strategies and the
importance of access to appropriate digital tools.
5. Engage in professional growth and leadership
o I am a firm believer that learning is a journey not a destination. This summer I
have been humbled to find out how much I did not know as it relates to
technology. I have recommitted myself to continue learning how technology can
be applied to assist students with disabilities.

o I have been able to learn new ways to apply technology to increase the learning
potential of all students. I have been sharing ideas already with coworkers on
how lessons can be improved and students empowered.

o While doing research for the assignment on mobile learning, my eyes opened to
the possibilities of what can be done outside the classroom to extend the learning
environment and promote student engagement.

o With the knowledge I have gained from taking this class, I want to create
positive learning environments where everyone is excited about the opportunity
to experience something new or see something old from a new perspective.
