If all this is true, you now want to ask, whats left of the individual?

I
started by saying that we construct ourselves from our choices, from
our actions, from the reasons that we legislate. But if all reasons,
once we legislate them, are public, then it seems as if none of them
are mine. Everybodys reasons seem to belong equally to everyone,
that is, they have normative force for everyone, and so apparently I
have just as much reason to carry out your projects as my
own. How is that supposed to leave me with a practical identity that
is my own and no one elses?
This kind of worry is familiar to us from criticisms of utilitarianism,
especially those of Bernard Williams.
