Only one Directory Service can be enabled (either Active Directory or LDAP or
NT4 Directory Services or NIS). You enable it by going to System --> Settings -
-> General --> Directory Service --> Select the directory service that you'll li
ke to use.. In this demonstration, we'll be using Active Directory.. Once you've
selected the Directory Service that you'll be using, a Directory Service entry
will be added to Services --> Control Services so that the service can be starte
d, stopped and configured..
ii. Services --> Directory Services --> Active Directory
[Now these are the questions that I have? If you make changes to the account in
AD, will it reflect on freenas.. to me this is not too there yet for production
as it creates an extra layer of administration.. if I add the user to a group in
AD, will it reflect on freenas.. I'll show you how it works, and then I'll show
you how I will implement this in the real world and the reasons why..]
# PRE-Requisite
a. Setup Name Resolution (Network --> Global Configuration --> Name Server; Defa
ult Gateway if DNS is on another subnet)... test by pinging the domain name of y
our ADDC from shell
b. Ensure that time between the freenas server and your AD DC are not out of syn
c for more than 5 minutes (Active Directory relies on Kerberos which is a time s
ensitive. Which means that both freenas and your AD DC cannot be out of sync for
more than 5minutes)
