UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA: The learners will be able to recognize that living things require water, food, and air.
LESSON OBJECTIVE: Given random images, students will be able to circle foods and drinks with 100% accuracy. Given the web activity, students will be able to record information about the care, feeding, and maintenance of a living thing.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE: Students will demonstrate a clear understanding by distinguishing food and water from other things. This lesson serves as a basic for learning about flow of matter and energy.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE: Introduction: o Begin with a class discussion about foods and drinks. A good way to review this is to ask questions about what the students like to eat. o Ask students about what they ate in the morning. o Ask students to identify foods and drinks from the images shown on the board/projector
Procedures:
Prior to the handout activity (15 minutes)
Teacher Procedure: After the introduction, students will be shown images on the board and the students will be encouraged to answer what they see on the board. Questions will be asked about what they ate in the breakfast, what are their favorite food and drinks, why should we drink water? Why should we eat food?
Student Procedure: The students will demonstrate a clear understanding of the lesson by answering the questions and distinguishing food and drinks from non-edible objects.
Handout activity (15 minutes) Teacher Procedure: The teacher will distribute the handouts and ask the students to circle all the edible objects.
Student Procedure: Students will demonstrate clear understanding by circling the edible objects only.
At the computer (10 minutes) Teachers Procedure:
The teacher will explain why we need to have food and water on time and that lack of either water or food will result in fatigue and dehydration. In this activity students are asked to feed a little boy and see what happens when he does not eat proper food and water.
Student procedure: Students will show clear understanding that proper meal keeps everyone healthy, by engaging in the activity.
Closure: (5 minutes) Ask students to share their thoughts ideas and discuss what happened to the little boy when he was not eating proper food and not drinking water.
