The photomicrograph below shows the cells of a plant at different stages of mitosis :

(i) Referring to the cells labelled (1) to (4), arrange them in the correct sequence of mitosis. (2 marks)
(ii) (1) Compare the DNA content of cell (1) and cell (4). (1 mark)
(2) Explain the difference in DNA content between cell (1) and cell (4) with reference to the
changes that occured during mitosis. (3 marks)
(iii) Explain how DNA controls the metabolic activities of the cells. (3 marks)

(2) What is the significance of this process in the root ? (2 marks)
(iii) Explain how cell type 2 is structurally adapted to its function. (3 marks)
