Gliceria Marella Villavicencio (b. May 13, 1852 - d.

September 28, 1929) was known as an illustrious

Filipina who contributed her fortune, time, efforts, intelligence, and leadership to the struggle for freedom
during the Philippine Revolution. She and her husband, Eulalio Villavicencio, contributed money to
support the Propaganda Movement and helped in disseminating leaflets and copies of the La Solidaridad.
Born in Taal, Batangas from an affluent family, her loyalty for the Katipunan was so great that despite the
imprisonment of her husband, she refused to spill out the organization's secrets. Upon the death of
Eulalio, she converted their house into a headquarters for the revolutionary army. Gliceria also
donated Bulusan, a family boat, to Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo which helped transport the troops
to Bicol and Visayas regions. At the outbreak of theFilipino-American War, her whole family was sent
to Manila, and the Americans confiscated their properties. Moreover, the house-turned-headquarters was
once again converted - now, into an army hospital. Because of his enumerable contribution in the
Philippine Revolution, Emilio Aguinaldo named her Madrina-General de las Fuerzas
Revolucionarios (Matriarch-General of the Revolutionary Forces) on June 12, 1898.
