Plan the research and write your research question
Collect information to aid investigation of the topic

Record (write down) and present the information
Use a report with diagrams and maps
3
The data collected are analysed and an explanation of the findings given.
IGIs may be used here

RESEARCH QUESTION
The success of your research often hinges on the research
question that you have chosen. Research questions should be
based on observations made.
For example, Jamie noticed that he climbed up a specific slope
the height of the trees got smaller. From this, he made up a
research question Does the height of trees decrease with the
increase in altitude?
A good research question is one that is
Specific
Measureable
Simple
Just one idea
Able to be proved true or false
URBAN FIELD TRIP
Land use changes
Changes in pedestrian volumes
Changes in traffic volumes
Changes in age of buildings
Changes in building heights
Changes in area of buildings
Distance people travel to a service
Questionnaire serveys
LAND USE SURVEYS
There are many situations in which it is helpful to know the
different uses that land use it put to. A list of possible uses:
Houses Shops restaurants
Schools police stations dockyards
Libraries banks pubs
Parks hostels gyms
Casino hotels railway stations
Offices information centres apartments
Church council offices hospitals
Play centres cinemas roads
Pharmacies marinas museums
PRESENTING AND
ANALYSING DATA
This means showing the results of your field work in a visual
form. The advantage of this is that it then makes it easier to
interpret.
There are three main categories of visual forms:
Maps
Graphs
Diagrams
