Design of Solar Parabolic Fresnel Reflector

Abstract- With the depletion of petroleum products and coal thereisraised a wide space for the
use of renewable resources like solar energy, wind energy for electricity generation and for the
purpose of cooling the room space. The energy from the biggest star is used for the electricity
generation by two ways. One is directly through the use of Solar PVs and another indirectly
using Solar Thermal Collectors for the generation of steam using which electricity is being
generated. Huge versions of Solar collectors are in use for power production by generating the
steam and also used for space cooling with available heat by using systems like ELECTROLUX
Refrigeration System. Linear Fresnel Collectors (Flat Plate) is of low cost and low efficiency.
Parabolic Trough Collectors is of high cost and high efficiency. Efforts are being in progress to
improve the efficiency of the existing collectors and afford them at lower rate. The hybrid solar
thermal collector designed with the advantage ofboththelinearFresnel collector and parabolic
trough collector would fulfil the efforts mentioned before. The proposed design has the straight
mirrors mounted in a parabolic fashion so the disadvantage of parabolic collector is eliminated.
The advantages of the Linear Fresnel mirrors are still possible in the proposed design. The
proposed hybrid design aims to utilize the available solar energy incident on the reflecting
mirrors as a means of heating the oil flowing through the receiver tube thereby heating the water
for the generation of steam needed for Electrolux Refrigeration system used in the purpose of
space cooling applications. It also reduces the ground width area which is predominantly high in
other solar collectors. It extends to the limit of finding the various ways through which the loss
of solar energy incident on the collector occurs and measure to control the loss and achieve the
maximum possible efficiency.
