Hi, I am your students 9 th grade English teacher, Ms. Murphy. I am excited to present your student with a year of amazing literature that is both diverse and connects to our modern world. Not only do I expect to breathe new life into old texts with contemporary texts, but also incorporate technology; by incorporating technology along with the texts I hope to connect the material for your student and create an interest in literature and writing that goes beyond the classroom. I cannot wait to dive into the books and other medias with your student and his/her peers! But before we get into that, I would like to bring some things to your attention.
You may already be aware that your students school has policies on technology use and these policies will be enforced within my classroom. I have listed some of the key policies below as well as included some of my own classroom policies for the technology that will be used.
School Policies: Cell phone use will be limited to the hallways and not during classroom time. School computers are to be used for academic purposes and will be regulated/monitored. Inappropriate behavior and/or language will result in suspension from the school computers.
Murphy Policies: Students will treat the technology gently and appropriately. Students will keep the technology in the classroom at all times. Students will be given two warnings about inappropriate use of technology before the technology will be taken away. o Parents will be notified. Students will be held to the standards, behavior, and punishments listed within the Student Handbook.
As I have mentioned earlier, students will be using technology to breathe new life into the classic texts and some projects involved include using sites that will be monitored by myself, closed to the public (but can be accessed by you and other parents), and encourage your student to develop his/her voice while showing me that they are learning. I will be creating online lectures that will be supplementary materials to my in-class lectures for your students convenience (if they need any further help outside of the classroom). I am available through email as well as by phone to answer any questions; I plan on discussing this further at our Open House on Friday September 30 as well as am available for conferences. Please feel free to contact me!
Note: Please sign and have your student sign the Acknowledgement form, cut on the dotted line, and return the bottom portion with your student by Friday September 30.
Sincerely, Ms. M. Murphy (954)249-7366 MAM11M@my.fsu.edu
