Reassessment Audit
Updates
Janna Petrie presented the June Reassessment Audits and notified the
committee that we are switching to a quarterly audit system and are
also attempting to initiate automated auditing via EPIC reports. The
Champions were instructed in how to retrieve their own audit results
and graphs from OPIT. UCH benchmark is 70% and any units below
that will need to start an action plan. If units need help setting up
action plans for their units, please contact co-chairs or Janna.
Max Swedhin will follow up on
electronic reports, as there are still
some problems to sort out.
Members may have to perform
manual July audits. Max will send
out tips on retrieving audits from
OPIT.

Birth Center Updates
Chuchay Tuason shared information regarding the Birth Centers
efforts to improve their HCAHPS for pain. Charting guidelines for her
unit have been developed and verified with their unit Educator; both
printed sheets and laminated cards have been distributed. The
Womens Care Center is changing their triage board to include a
section for the WILDA scale. White boards have been updated to
include a section on pain management; will be using the patient
water jugs to show patients the pain scale. They are surveying
patients in clinic at 6 weeks postpartum, asking how well their pain
was managed during and after labor.
The patient water jugs will need to
be updated with the WILDA scale
(vs. the old FACES scale).
Max will

back on
updating
the jugs.

White Board Plans
Max Swedhin has received some feedback that units are tweaking the
white board plan to make it better for their needs. The med/surg unit
reps reported some pushback regarding the roll out of the white
boards. Max is available to meet with managers if necessary to
discuss their concerns. Max will also start spot auditing units in July to
see how white boards are being used, both new and old, and will
provide data for managers.
Max Swedhin will meet with the ICU
reps separately to discuss a solution
that will work better for their needs
(specifically nonverbal, intubated
patients). Max will start spot
auditing units for white board use.

Questions/Concerns
It was suggested that Nitrous Oxide will start being used in the Birth
Center for laboring patients, but APS is unaware of this practice. If so,
it will probably only be used for that specific application.
Max Swedhin is spearheading a group to rewrite the Pain
Management Policy into a system-wide policy.
Clark Lyda has a pharmacy studentMichelle Edwardswho is
working on updating order sets if necessary.
