RESURRECTION SUNDAY – JESUS IS ALIVE!

MESSAGE: 3 NAILS
MARCH 22-23, 2008
CLARENCE E. STOWERS, JR.
SENIOR PASTOR

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John
15:13

WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR CHRIST’S DEATH?

WAS IT…

1. THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS?

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of
the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in
some sly way and kill him. Matthew 26:3-4

PLEASE SEE:
Matthew 27:22-25; John 11:47-50

2. THE ROMANS

Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus… They stripped him and put a scarlet
robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head.
They put a staff in his right…"Hail, king of the Jews!" They spit on him, and took the
staff and struck him on the head again and again... Above his head they placed the
written charge against him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Matthew
27:27-37

3. THE ISRAELITES

But they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" Luke 23:21

"Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" asked the governor.
"Barabbas," they answered. Matthew 27:21

4. GOD.

This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge;
and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
Acts 2:23

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might
become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21
WHAT HELD JESUS TO THE CROSS

THE THREE NAILS…

1. THE NAIL OF LOVE

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son
into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-
17

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13

2. THE NAIL OF LOYALTY

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to
bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 1
Peter 3:18

3. THE NAIL OF OUR SINS

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through
sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned-- Romans 5:12

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
Romans 6:23
