Dear customer,
SAP would like to inform you of an important change regarding the support of non-Unicode systems based on SAP NetWeaver technology.
Unicode is the computing industry standard for consistent representation and manipulation of text expressed in most of the world's writing systems. Unicode replaces a multitude of proprietary and complex ways of handling different character sets in one system, and supporting this standard is required for any modern computer system. Like most other software vendors, SAP has enabled its systems for Unicode for many years now and starting with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Unicode already became the only installation option for new systems. Upgrades of non-Unicode systems nevertheless were still supported to provide customers a longer transition time.
Today Unicode has reached a broad adoption among SAP customers allowing announcing the next step:
New SAP NetWeaver Releases (i.e. releases following SAP NetWeaver 7.40) and products based on it will be Unicode only. Upgrades of non-Unicode systems to releases higher than SAP NetWeaver 7.40 without prior Unicode conversion will not be supported.
Existing non-Unicode systems can be efficiently converted to Unicode using reliable tools from SAP. Information about available Unicode conversion procedures can be found at service.sap.com/Unicode, for questions, please contact globalization@sap.com.
This announcement is part of SAPs foresighted information policy, which SAP hopes will enable you to move smoothly to new, future-proof platforms.
