Scramble

A scramble in place can be used as

anticipation for a fast run or a zip.

A zip or speed lines are the lines left behind the object causing them.
Therefore they must not move with the object zooming off the screen.

Most zips are quick, 3-4 frames can be enough. However a complex zip needs
to be on the screen longer to register with the audience. It also helps to have
the motion of a longer and complex zip moving in opposition to the
movement of your character. It takes longer for the complex shapes to break
apart.

In a run, both feet are off the ground at some
point.

In a walk, one foot is always on the ground.

The Slide
When coming to the end of a slide you are
thrown off balance. Then you recover and go
into your next action. It is like coming to the
end of an escalator.
