Rules/Consequences
High School History
CLASS ROOM RULES:
1. Always act in a manner that is respectful of your teacher, yourself, and other students.
2. Arrive to class on time and with the proper learning materials for that day.
3. Follow directions to the best of your ability when given.
4. Turn in all homework assignments at the beginning of class to the homework bin.
5. Refrain from using any technology in the class that is not directly needed for the assignment.
RATIONALE FOR CLASS ROOM RULES:
1. Acting in a respectful manner is important in order to cultivate a safe and positive learning
environment.
2. Arriving to class on time and with the proper materials for the day is important so that
distractions are limited and your teacher can maximize the total time for learning.
3. Following directions to the best of your ability is important in order to allow you to try
exercises you may be uncomfortable with which will allow you to learn and grow.
4. Turning in homework assignments on time to the correct bin is important so that your teacher
can assess your work and give timely feedback.
5. Refraining from using technology that is not needed for assignments is important so that you
can remain on task and turn in your best work.
CONSEQUENCES FOR NOT FOLLOWING CLASS ROOM RULES:
1. Verbal warning on first infraction (disrespectful behavior, out of seat, distracting others, off
task, use of non permitted technology)
2. Loss of participation grade points for second infraction if in same day or showing up without
homework assignment
3. Detention if three infractions in same day with a call to the parents/guardians
4. Referral to office if four infractions in same day or major infraction (fighting, inappropriate
sexual misbehavior, overly disrespectful to teacher or peers)
5. Schedule parent-teacher conference if behavioral misconduct occurs with high frequency
(multiple times in a week)
REWARDS FOR FOLLOWING CLASS ROOM RULES:
1. Increased probability of good grades
2. Increased self-esteem
3. Receive a homework pass if all assignments are properly completed and turned in on time for
two weeks straight
4. Individualized praise
5. Bulletin board recognition
PROCEDURES:
1. Borrowing materials- this is important so that if students have forgotten the necessary supplies
for the day they can still participate in the lesson. This should be done in a respectful manner
when the teacher is not talking, they should use please and thank you, and return the supplies
after the lesson.
2. Conducting silent reading- this is important so that if a student finishes their work faster than
others they do not distract their peers from completing their best work. This is to be used if there
is transitional time between exercises and the books must be school appropriate. This is not free
time and phone usage is still not permitted.
3. Turning in work- this is important so that students understand homework is to be collected at
the beginning of class in the homework bin. If the assignment is not turned in by the beginning
of class it will be marked late. This will avoid lost or misplaced papers and ensure timely
assessment.
4. Working in groups- this is important because students will have assignments that need to be
completed through teamwork. The students must maintain a respectful manner throughout the
classroom during these lessons in order to facilitate a safe and positive environment in which
students can grow a rapport with each other by sharing their knowledge and ideas.
5. Dismissal/leaving class- this is important so that students understand that the bell does not
dismiss them, the teacher does. By dismissing the students you can remind them of the
homework due the next day by pointing to the board where it will be written out and the schedule
for the next class. This will increase the chances that all students will arrive with the necessary
tools to learn and assignments for the next class.
