Behavior Contingency Plan 1

Kristen Aaltonen
Undesirable behaviors targeted:
1. Students absent or out of their seat (walking around or in the wrong seat) when the tardy bell rings.
2. Students lacking materials, either materials from home or from within classroom (I often had students
forget to pick up their notebooks and then get up to go get them once class had already started).
3. Students rummaging around backpack for homework after tardy bell (aka, has homework, but cant
find it).

Desirable (expected) Behavior Targeted:
1. Students in their assigned seats when the tardy bell rings.
2. Students have all materials out, including homework due (I have been trying to decide whether I want
them to turn their homework in before class or if I want to collect it myself), notebooks, pencil or pen,
and other items placed out for them to pick up.
3. Notebook is open to correct page, and students have started writing the essential question or warm-
up.
4. Homework due next class has been put in homework folder and folder has been put in backpack.
Therefore homework for next class is not out? I wont be able to see each student put it away, so it not
being out is evidence of it being put away, although it doesnt necessarily mean it has been put in their
backpack (last year, students would often tuck it in their notebook with other papers that stay in class
instead of taking it home to complete).

Types of positive reinforcements - Reinforced when & how:
1. Immediate R+ Students will receive wildlife stickers on a flap that will be taped on the inside
of the front cover of their notebooks. The flap will have a grid with dates that folds up so that it
will be visible while the students have their notebooks open as they will be writing in them. I
will walk around and check and if they are exhibiting all desired behaviors and give a sticker if
they are. When they get 5 stickers then they will put their initials on a grid (roughly 90% of the
class, so if 20 students, then 18 spaces) on the bulletin board.
2. Delayed R+ When the grid has been filled, then they will get an animal (color picture, texas
native, information on the back). 5 animals and they get the learning activity.
3. Novel/Interactive Learning Activity When students get the 5 animals (roughly 5-6 weeks),
then I will hire the Austin Reptile Show to come in. Students will be required to research
animals and their roles in their native ecosystems (we cover ecology for the first half of the
semester). Students will be required to prepare written questions ahead of time and ask them.
And they will get to hold snakes! Awesome!
