Personal Life Philosophy
Everybody is unique and they own way; we all have different ideas and opinions,
we all practice different beliefs. Our ideas about life are based on our perception, the way
we see the world. So it is only natural that each individual follows his or her own slightly
modified philosophy. My life, my surroundings, my morals- these are what help to shape
my personal philosophy.
I believe ones surroundings play a crucial part in the way one learns to interact
and function in the world. My family is the one who raises me, instilling their values
upon me; they are the ones who taught me right from wrong. As a child I was only aware
of what the adults in my life tell you, I begin to make choices around what they believe is
best. But as you grow and obtain knowledge I become more informed, that I was able to
think for myself and begin to make more of my own decisions. I think those values taught
to me as a child are always there, but you now have the choice to abide by them or to
create your own belief system.
I still have most of my life ahead of me Im only nineteen years old; I still havent
lived out my whole philosophy yet. Honestly, before this philosophy classes my life, I
never questioned my ideas much at all. I would occasionally question the way things
Parsons 2
were but would never really take the time to dive into them, finding my own answers. But
now this course has helped me to do just that. Talking in class about the big questions in
life from Solomons book has made me stop and think about the world around me. With
help from the works of philosophers such as Plato and Socrates, I have been starting to
come up with my own ideas on topics such as reality. I plan on following my philosophy
in the future by remaining open to listening to others ideas on topics, but staying true to
what I believe if that is what I find to be most accurate.
Socrates was a man who believed in himself. I think it is very important to have
faith. "He is a man of courage who does not run away, but remains at his post and fights
against the enemy" (Socrates). When questioned about your beliefs you should be able to
have the confidence in yourself to defend your right and what you think is right. If you
dont stand up for what you believe in, then maybe you are not truly a believer; maybe
you are just a fake. I know that I Stand up for all of my beliefs, because if you dont that
just truly means you are not a true believer you are just wasting your time.
Over the past two years my whole family had it fights, arguments, and silent
treatments. Honestly no family is perfect they might seem like its perfect, but trust me its
really a few problems with every family. We honestly might hate each other guts and
sometimes want to kill one or two of them, but who doesnt want to kill they family
members? If you have siblings and dont want too ripe out there throats your just not
human. Family is not an important thing. It's everything (Fox). No matter what we go
throw with our family whether its a fistfight or a bad argument, I know its go be hard
thing to get over with, but from personal expense no matter what happen your family is
going to have your back throw thick and thin. This has to be one of my biggest
Parsons 3
values/beliefs because family is the one of the only motivation push I have so I lean on
my family a lot even know we have or disagreements.
Life is filled with multiple challenges, struggles, obstacles, and people that will
try to hold you back and want you to fail, but if you dont fail and learn from your
mistake how will you succeed. One of my favorite Michael Jordan quotes Ive missed
more than 9000 shots in my career. Ive lost almost 300 games. 26 times, Ive been
trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. Ive failed over and over and over
again in my life. And that is why I succeed (Hudson). Just after reading this quote it
really reflects on my life a lot Ive been thru so much in my life on and off the court.
Theres so many situations where people put they trust in me to do things and I let them
down, but I realize with failure you can learn from your mistakes and you will learn what
to do it the right way so next time you will succeed. Some people want to see you fail and
lose faith in yourself to see you fail just the for they entertainment use that negative
energy and hatred they have as positive energy you can feed off it to get m or motivation
to keep you pushing forward thru all the struggles you have in life.
My last value would have to would have to be by my favorite NBA player in the
league right now Kevin Durant stated Hard work beats when talent fails to work hard
(Rios). Nothing in life is ever just giving to you are free you have to work for it, but its
just not going to be a cake walk thru the park to get where you want to be at in life it
going to take blood, sweat, and dedication to get there. As long as you put in the work
and never give up on you self you will be successful in life. There is so many people in
our world that dont do nothing but probably still wealthy and living the life because
somebody in they life has money to support. Other people like my self has dream to make
Parsons 4
it to the nba. For my goal I have less than One percent to make it to the Nba and there is
over 5,00 other guys who dreams are just like mine so I have to out work all them every
single day on the court and in the books to.
My philosophy is very important when it come to my life. My philosophy and
values are the foundation of which I live my life. It guides my life in two separate places:
my life and my chosen profession. It guides my life by showing me guidelines to which I
should adhere. My life is my profession, so I should carry my life values over to my
profession. My philosophy and values are the backbone of the way I live.
