Eachfacultymemberratedthestandardsinthecategoryaseffective,somewhateffective
andineffective.Asafacultyweanalyzedtheineffectiveratingsandrecordedtheresultsin
achart.Wediscussedintwosmallergroupstheresultsoftheineffectiveratings.There
weretwostandardsthatweremostidentifiableinthisareaservice(standard6)and
evangelization(standard8).
Asafacultyweneedtoaddresstheservicestandard(6)withourstudentsandformalizea
servicelearningprojectgradeappropriate.Someofourteachershavetakeninsome
workshopsinthisareaandothershaveexperienceintheareaofserviceprograms.We
willdesignatefacultymeetingasabrainstormingsessioninMay2014,andconstructalist
ofideasthatmayincludeprogramsorschoolbasedprojectsthatcaninvolvethestudents.
Oncewehaveagreedonageappropriateservicelearningprojectswewillcommunicate
theplantoallparentsandstakeholders.Itwillbewrittenandinsertedaspartofthestudent
handbookandallteacherwebpages.TheimplementationshouldhappenintheFallof
2014.
Inrelationtotheevangelizationstandard(8),wefoundthatwehavenotreachedouttoour
community.Wehaveafacultymemberwhobelongstotheliturgycommittee.

Theneedistoestablishthevehicleofcommunicationsothatweareawareofthechildren
inourschoolandtheparishwhoreceivebaptism.Throughourliaison(facultymember)we
shouldestablishtheopencommunicationbetweenparishandschoolinthecelebrationof
thesacramentsbaptism,firstcommunionandconfirmation.
CatechistCertificationisanongoingprocessforallofourfacultyandstaff.Atthistime,
threefacultymembershavecertification.Thereisaplantocontinuetoattendinservices
tofulfilltherequirementofthephasestogainsomecontinuityinthisarea.
TherearemanypositivethingsatSt.GregorythataffirmsourCatholicIdentityatSt.
GregorytheGreat.Weeffectivelycommunicatethemissionandphilosophystatementsin
mostofourschooldocuments.Itisfoundinthehandbook,postedinallclassroomsandthe
missionstatementisreciteddailybyourstudents.ThestudentLearningExpectationsare
incorporatedintoourwayoflifeandmostrecentlythefacultycomposedTheRootBeliefs,
whicharestatementsofconviction.Thosestatementswillbeaddedtoschooldocuments
intheFallof2014.Becausewefirmlybelievethatparentsaretheprimaryeducatorsofour
children,weendeavortoinvolveandcommunicatewithparentsregularly.Conferencesare
heldattheendofthefirstquarter.Allteachersscheduleconferencesthroughouttheyear
asneeded.Theparentsofstudentspreparingforsacramentsareinvolvedinmeetingsto
assistinthespiritualdevelopmentoftheirchildren.OurstudentsattendMasseveryFriday
andallHolyDaysduringtheschoolyear.Westronglyencourageourfamiliestoattend

SundayMass,espeiciallyonthefirstSundayofthemonthwhichisourFamilyMass.Our
childrenschoirhasbeenawonderfuladditiontothemusicministry.Ourstudents
participateintheMassaslectors,altarservers,giftbearersandushers.OurReligion
BooksarechosenfromalistofacceptedbooksbytheLosAngelesArchdiocese.The
seriesandscopeofsequenceisconsistentthroughthegradelevels.Ourschool
environmentisoneofreligioussignsandsymbolsthatisaconstantreminderofour
Catholictraditionandfaith.Everyclassroomhascrucifixes,statuesofMaryandprayers.
Webegineverydaywithprayerleadbyourstudentleaders.Othertimesforprayeralways
occurbeforeandaftermeals,TheAngelusisournoonprayerandmanytimestheRosary
isrecitedonaregularbasis.Ourstudentshavebeenenrichedthroughprayerexperiences
suchas,retreats,visitingtheelderly,ChristianService4LifeRallyandRosaryRally.

InreviewingtheSchoolsActionPlanintheareaofCatholicIdentitythefollowingcriticalgoalisbeing
addressed:

IncreaseawarenessCatholicIdentitybylivingteachingsofJesusthroughsocialjustice.
InthecontinuanceofholdingontothetraditionsandcharismoftheDominicanSisters,itisimperativeto
involveourstudentsinaChristianserviceprogramthatwillsupportthesocialjusticeteachingsofJesus
andourresponsibilityofservicetoawiderglobalcommunity.

WehavealsoaddedStandard8Evangelization. Allschoolpersonnelareactivelyengaged
inbringingtheGoodNewsofJesusintothetotaleducationalexperience.Realizingthatour
studentshavehadsomeenrichingexperiencesinthisarea,thereisaneedforfollowupsothattheycan
puttheirfaithintoaction.
