Resistors in Series and Parallel

Abstract

Resistors are used to create specified values of current and voltage in an electronic circuit.
Resistance value is read from the 4 color bands in the resistors body. The first two bands
provide the numbers for the resistance and the third band provides the number of zeros. The
fourth band indicates the tolerance. The group was assigned to compute the total resistance and
tolerance of the resistors individually, in series, and in parallel with regards with their respective
color bands. The computed values were compared with the readings of the multimeter.

Questions and Problems

1. How does the total resistance compare with the individual resistances in a series circuit?
The sum of the Total resistance is greater than the individual resistance of the resistors in
a series circuit.

2. How does the total resistance compare with the individual resistances in a parallel circuit?
The sum of the Total resistance is less than the individual resistance of the resistors in a
parallel circuit.

3. Given three resistors: 50, 100, 200. What is their total resistance when they are
connected in (a) series and (b) in parallel?
