Course Description: A capstone experience is a project that allows students to learn about themselves by moving an
idea or dream toward a topic of interest, specialization, community need, or career choice. By the end of this year-long
course, you will have completed 40 hours of community service and The 4 Ps: Paper, Product, Portfolio, and
Presentation.

Project Options: Each student will select one of the following types of projects to be completed by the end of the year:
Community Service, Extended Observation, Internship, Research Project, Senior Showcase, Service Learning, or Work-
Based Learning.

The 4 Ps:
1. Paper (1)Title page, (2)Research body, (3) Works cited page
a. Research body contains students research and reflection on experience throughout project.
b. Minimum of 2300 words (7-8 pgs) using 12 pt. font with MLA format and citations.
c. Minimum of 5 cited works/sources.

2. Product Student made invention, model, event/program, policy/procedure, manual, campaign, or website
a. Created by the student and related to the research paper and/or the documented field hours
b. **For students who are choosing to do a project that involves other seniors, they have the option of
combining their final product. If a student chooses this option, they must document their role and
participation in the collaborative effort. Examples of this would be three seniors who wish to
perform a concert with songs they wrote or two seniors who want to develop a charity event. **

3. Portfolio - Organized collection of documents/evidence from capstone experience in a 3-ringed binder
a. Each binder will contain the following 13 items: (1) Title page, (2) Table of Contents, (3) 5
Characteristics of a Graduate Inventory, (6) Resume, (7) Brag Sheet, (8) 3 Letters of
Recommendation, (9) Commitment Form, (10) Research Paper, (11) Log Sheet of Community Service
Hours, (12) 10+ Pictures of Capstone Experience, and (13) Quarterly Reflection Papers.

4. Presentation Oral presentation on reflection of defining moments in the capstone experience, future
educational goals and career plan.
a. Each student will create a PowerPoint, Prezi, or similar electronic document that summarizes their
capstone project**
b. Each student will give an 8-10 minute presentation to teachers, administrators, students,
community members and business partners.
c. Professional/business attire must be worn.


Graded Assignments:
Grades will be based on a combination of daily progress logs, portfolio checks, papers, reflection responses,
presentations, form submission, products, professionalism and other processing activities.
