Course Description:
Welcome to a new school year. This class is an exploration into the birth and development of America
with special focus on the geography, economy, government, military, foreign affairs and the people
who helped to shape the new nation. We will cover the American Revolution, The US Constitution
and its changes over time, the US Civil War, and Reconstruction. This year is going to rigorous and
challenging but this course will prepare you for high school and even college! If you work hard, great
things will happen.

Grading:
Grades will be posted on my classroom window every two weeks. It is your responsibility to turn in
your assignments on time and check your Grades. I offer academic help everyday (except
Wednesday) after school. *Just because you do the work, doesnt mean you deserve a good grade:
make sure all your assignments are to the best of your ability and dont be afraid to ask for help.














Materials for Class:
Everyday you are required to have the following items:
Your School Binder (with tabs for different subjects)
Your School Agenda
History Notebook (A notebook dedicated to this class)
2 pens and 2 sharpened pencils
*If you are unable to purchase these items, please see me after school.

Smart Phone Policy:
A smart phone is not needed for my class, however there are times that I will allow you to use them
for educational purposes. Using your Smartphone without permission is strictly prohibited and using it
for entertainment purposes is not allowed. If students do not abide by these rules, they will be banned
from using their smartphones in my class.

Parents and Students (Students must ask their parents for permission): Follow
our class on Instagram. I post student work, homework assignments, and
funny pictures about history.
Rules:
Any inappropriate comments will result in academic probation and will
be flagged.
Only students, parents and teachers from Mendez Intermediate are
allowed to follow.
I recommend following, but not commenting on posts to protect your
identity.
The class Instagram is set to Private please send a request to view

Homework and being late to class (Tardy):
Students are expected to complete Homework regularly and be on time every day. Parents will be
notified immediately if students do not complete an assignment or is tardy. See your agenda for more
information.

Behavior Expectations:
Students are expected to follow all school rules at all times.
Some key rules students must abide by in class:
1. Follow directions the first time they are given
2. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak
3. Stay in your seat unless you have permission to do otherwise
4. Respect private property and maintain a clean work environment
5. No cursing, teasing or disrespectful behavior toward students or adults

If you choose to Break a class or school Rule:
*Choose to follow all rules at all times and you will not have any of these consequences.

Remind 101:
(Students ask your parents before signing up) A way I keep students and parents informed on
projects, tests, homework and school events is I use Remind 101. Remind is a Free texting service
that allows me to mass text an entire class and parents to remind them of assignments. It is
completely free and safe: Phone numbers are always kept private so that teacher-student-parent
communication is 100% safe and secure.
