Learning Target(s)
Students learn about different factors of a diverse classroom and the
preservation of culture. By collecting data from their classmates, students
will gain perspective of the demographics of the class, in order to form an
understanding of the culture of the school. This will be used as ground
knowledge later in the unit to drive discussions and projects that deal with
cultural diversity in markets.

Description of Teaching Strategy/Learning Activity
As an introduction to cultural diversity, students will be analyzing the
demographics of their class by going around the classroom and gathering
data from their classmates. After the data is collected, the class will input
their results in a communal Google spreadsheet document that will guide
discussion points.

Classroom Implementation Procedures
1. Do now: Turn to the people in your row and each take a turn
completing the sentence: My culture defines be by.
2. Students share with the three other people on their row.
3. Students receive a survey worksheet and walk around the
classroom gathering data about their classmates cultural
background.
4. Students sign out a Chrome book and access the teacher-sent
Google spreadsheet.
5. Students collaborate as a class to input the data.
6. Teacher monitors students and takes -2 pts from students who are
not engaged or asking a question.
7. Students volunteer to create a Chart and Graph using the data
collected, by using the Eno Board.
8. After all data is completed, the class has a discussion on Google
chat with their row based on the prompt, the cultural background of
our class
.
