Artifact for Standard 1: The competent teacher of mathematics communicates mathematical
content and concepts
Name of Artifact: Fraction Project Practice Date: Spring 2014 Course: MTH130-003
Rationale: I have included this artifact on understanding the dynamics of working collaboratively with others under Standard 1A. I feel the assignment belongs under this standard because I was able to work with two other individuals before the bigger project. In doing so, I was able to learn how they solved a problem I was unable to or had difficulty understanding the reasoning behind it. For this assignment, I was able to extend my comprehension for fractions because the others in my group provided different perspectives in solving the problems. I came to understand that working with others not only aids in learning the solutions, but also how to approach the problems through different perspectives. In my future teaching, I will strive to enrich the lives of all my students and enhance the classroom climate through having my students work in small groups for practice problems before a test or projects, so that they, too, can approach problems differently if they do not understand it one certain way.
