IPI stands for Imperfection Index of yarns , For ring spun yarn imperfections in

the yarn refer to the total number of thin places (-50%), thic places (!50%) and
neps (!"00%) present per #000 metre of yarn$
% thin place of -50% mean the cross-section of the yarn at the thic place is
only 50% of its mean cross section or less$
% thic place of !50% means the cross-section of the yarn at the thic place is
#50% of its mean cross section or more$
!"00%&eps indicates the cross-section at the nep is "'0% of the mean cross-
section of the yarn or more$
Imperfections can both be the cause of ends do(n in do(nstream processing and
also mae a disturbing appearance in the fabric$
)he product of the lea strength in lbs and count (*nglish +ystem) is the ,ount
+trength Product (,+P)$
% lea of #"0 yards is (rapped (ith a (rap reel, ha-ing #$5 yard cisrcumference$ )he
reel is .tted (ith a tra-ersing mechanism that (ill minimise the bunching of yarn on
the reel$ )hese leas are relaxed on a sein holder and conditioned in the +tandard
atmosphere ( )emp$ "/0, and 1$2$ 35%)
Count Measurement :
)he lea is taen and tested for cotton count (ith 4%uto +orter4$

7reaing load is tested (ith a lea strength tester (hich gi-es the breaing load in lb
(pounds) force, this lea strength ester is a pendulam type (ith constant rate of
tra-erse, the mo-ing clam operating at a uniform speed of #" inches8minute$
After the strength is tested , the mean lea strength and the mean count
are calculated and Multiplying them to determine the CSP of that yarn .
