Culture a culture is like a societys personality and it shapes our identities as
individuals. It is the accumulation of shared meanings, ritual , norms and traditions among the members of an organization or society. Our culture determines the overall priorities we attach to different activities and products and also helps to decide whether specified product will make it. A product that provides benefits to a member of a member of a culture at any point in time has a much better chance to achieve market place acceptance. Conventions- they are norms that regulate how we conduct our everyday lives. These rules often deal with the subtleties of consumer behavior. The relationship between consumer behavior and culture is a two way street. On the one hand consumers are more likely to embrace products and services products that resonate with a cultures priorities at any given time, on other hand its worthwhile for us to understand which products do get accepted because this knowledge provides a window into the dominant cultural ideas of that period. Culture System A culture system consists of these functional areas
1. Ecology- the way a system adapt to its habitat. A technology a culture uses to obtain and distribute resources shapes its ecology.
2. Social structure- the way people maintain an orderly social life. This includes the domestic and political groups that dominate the culture.
3. Ideology- The mental characteristics of the people and the way they relate to their environment and social groups. This relates to the idea of common world view.
