The document contains several Bible verses providing guidance for young men. It encourages them to control themselves, show integrity and sound speech so as not to give opponents reason to criticize them. It also advises presenting yourself to God as approved by handling the word of truth rightly and speaking only what is good and edifying. Finally, it suggests focusing thoughts on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy.

Likewise urge the younger men to control themselves. Show yourself in all respects a model of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity, and sound speech that cannot be censured, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us (Titus 2:6-8). Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fts the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear (Ephesians 4:29). But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3). I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifce, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:1-2). For all that is in the world, the lust of the fesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides for ever (1 John 2:16-17). Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things (Philippians 4:8). 2013 Ascension Press, all rights reserved.
