Notebook #2

3a. Tell the story of your research. What turns di d it take? What were your
missed opportunities and what were your unexpected scores?

For this research project, I have had a lot of time to think about what social
justice issue I want to write about. I struggled in the beginning to decide on a topic
partial due to my lack of knowledge on social justice issues and what they are. My
research started with simply looking up the definition of a social justice issue, which
is a noun meaning justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and
privileges within a society. From this point I was able to think of quite a few topics,
so much so that I just couldnt narrow it down. I then decided I wanted to write
about a topic that was important to me. Topics such as gender equality, organ
donation, stem cell research or the importance of health care had been considered
before I chose my final topic. I felt that all of these topics were important to me, but
because majority of them had to do with medicine or health related, I concluded
with the broader topic of the importance of Health Care.
I first started researching the topic of Health Care my senior year in High
School, when the debate about Obama Care became an issue. I found how incredibly
important health care is not only in America but the world. There are a lot of issues
when it comes to health care and that there is no simple solution without someone
having a disadvantage. My career goal is to be in the medical field as a Surgical
Physicians Assistant. Anyone who is in the medical field (especially doctors) is
affected the most by healthcare changes such as pay. Not to mention patients and
citizens who have to deal with the issues and injustices of different healthcare plans.
While researching I found out a lot about healthcare. Researching about this project
has not only been interesting but also extremely important to understand todays
issues in America. Researching these social justices has opened up my eyes to the
troublesome matters of healthcare today.
