Philosophy
Through 15 years of extensive study in music I have performed in 42 states, 13 countries,
and four continents. During this time I have shifted from a full-time performer to an
educator and acquired a strong desire to educate others about music. I spent a full year as
a long term substitute as the Director of Bands at Forest Hills Central and during this time
my beliefs and passion related to music education have been affirmed. I believe that the
commitment and work put into a music program is directly reflective of the quality of
performance and the student dedication. The director must go above and beyond all
expectations of students, parents, and administrators to provide the best experience
possible. I will use music in conjunction with the nine national standards to develop
independent, creative and reliable individuals as well as create lifelong interests.

As much as music is a learning experience, the acquisition of such knowledge should be
delivered with a clear and concise method. This method will be different for students of
different abilities and learning styles. The goal is to give students a positive learning
experience and enforce positive characteristics that will enable them to achieve both in
and out of the classroom and in the present and future.

Other Interests
In addition to my Education degree I pursued a Jazz Studies degree and would like to
bring my experience in jazz to the students. Jazz opens up many creative and intricate
options for students that traditional band music cannot. Much of my student life has been
spent playing 30+ musicals and I feel very comfortable mixing band, choir, and drama in
that setting.
I love hiking, camping, and outdoor activities. I have survived a few backpacking
ventures, coasted through rapids, and have an interest in pursuing rock/ice climbing. I
would be happy to participate in some sort of outdoor/adventure club that would involve
teaching students wilderness skills and gain valuable experience.
Travel and learning are two of my top interests. Through these two interests I
have become a Michigan ambassador for a global online community. I enjoy teaching
and learning most anything at all levels and would like to share my interests with
students, teachers, and parents.
