Language
Speaking & Listening
Understanding that social interactions influence the way people engage with ideas and respond to
others for example when exploring and clarifying ideas of others, summarising their own views and
reporting them to a larger group
Understand that languages have different written and visual communication systems, different oral
traditions and different ways of constructing meaning
Identify organisational patterns and language features of spoken texts appropriate to a range of
purposes
Enhance presentations by using some basic oral presentation strategies

Reading & Viewing
Skim a text for overall message and scan for particular information eg. Headings, key words
Read different types of texts by combining contextual, semantic, grammatical and phonic knowledge
using text processing strategies for example monitoring meaning, cross checking and reviewing
Summarise a paragraph and indicate the main idea, key points or key arguments in imaginative,
informative and persuasive texts
Identify and interpret the different forms of visual information, including maps, tables, charts,
diagrams, animations and images

Writing & Representing
Plan, draft and publish imaginative, informative and persuasive texts containing key information and
supporting details for a widening range of audiences, demonstrating increasing control over text
structures and language features

Base on the AIS plans as well as curriculum, in unit 1, year 5 VNC (year 4 in local school) will be focused
on the 2 topics: Trade people as we love ourselves and Bamboo is rising straight. Through these, students
will have a chance to learn more about language, skills, techniques.....etc to develop their confidence to
use Vietnamese in daily life.

Art
Central Idea: There are many ways and
techniques that can be used to create depth in
a work of art.

Students will observe lines in the environment
around them and discuss the connections
between each one to an emotion. Throughout
the unit students will be given opportunity to
create a value scale in their art pieces, using a
variety of art techniques. Student s will also
identify and reflect on the use of line, shape
and value in famous artworks.

Chinese

People and their jobs
Talk about where people work
Talk about what students want to be in future
Write characters:
Complete a writing task about what jobs the
family members do and what one wants to
be in the future by using simple structure in
Chinese.

Maths
Number & Algebra
Apply an understanding of place value to read and write numbers of up to nine digits including
expanded notation
Arrange numbers of up to nine digits in ascending and descending order
State the place value of digits in numbers up to nine digits
Round numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, hundred thousand or million
Select, apply and record or explain a variety of mental and written strategies to solve addition and

Solve problems involving purchases and the calculation of change to the nearest five cents, with
and without the use of digital technologies

Measurement & Geometry
Combine common 2D shapes, including special quadrilaterals, to form other common shapes or
designs, eg combine a rhombus and a triangle to form a trapezium

Create symmetrical patterns, designs, pictures and shapes by translating (sliding), reflecting
(flipping) and rotating (turning0 one or more common shapes

PE
During the first unit in Physical Education we
will begin our first games unit which will
concentrate on basketball and basketball
specific skills.
Students will learn basic dribbling, passing,
catching and shooting techniques as well as the
rules of basketball and tactics involved in the
game.

French
Students will have a chance to learn new vocabulary,
communicating skills and express themselves in
French with simple sentences.

Topic 1 will include: greetings, numbers, age, and
alphabet.
Topic 2 will include: time, days, months, classroom,
and articles.
