Childrens Learning: We aim to provide a warm and caring environment where children develop independence and confidence. The curriculum is based on the UK Early Years Foundation Stage. This is planned to support each childs learning and progress across three prime areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language Development; Physical Development; and when children are ready across the specific areas of Mathematics; Literacy; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. The environment is carefully planned for children to learn through play and experiential activities depending on the interests and learning Schemas of the children. We will inform parents of topics and please feel free to share any stories and/or activities related to our topics! The children will have specialist lessons once a week with the Library teacher and Music Teacher. All of DUCKS will be following a Dual Language programme. Your child will be exposed to English and Mandarin every day in their learning and play. Teachers will meet with parents to discuss your childs Individual Language Plan.
Settling In: The next few weeks will be transitional weeks for your child. Please follow the staggered start schedule sent to you in the beginning of the school year. When your child has settled and ready to be left in the classroom you may leave and can wait in the reception area or in the toddler house. We do ask that the corridors are kept clear at all times and that your security badges are clearly visible whilst you are within school premises.
Toddler Times: The toddler classes start at 8:30 (AM class) / 12:30 (PM class) every day. If children arrive early, their parent or carer need to stay with your child in the Toddler garden/play area. You may also wish to visit the Library in the morning. Pick-up is between 11:20-11:30 for the AM class and 2:50-3:00 for the PM class. Please inform the teacher if someone different will pick-up your child. All Toddler children must be picked up by 11:30/3:00. Please call the school if you will be late.
What to bring: Please bring the following every day: Water bottles and Learning Journals. A change of clothes (including underwear please! These may be left in school until a new set is needed), HAT, nappies (if needed; these may be left in school). All items must be clearly labeled with your childs name. Children should be dressed in clothes that are comfortable, easy to get on and take off and can get dirty! We do a lot of messy work and aprons cant always catch the mess. Shoes should be comfortable (no crocks or lace-ups please!). When needed, please apply sunscreen and mosquito repellant before your child comes to school.
Parent Involvement: Parents are our partners in the learning journey of the children. You are always welcome to come in for a story, an activity or just to help out! Class Parents sign-up sheets will be sent out and we welcome all volunteers. There will be lots of opportunities for parent-led and parent- initiated activities throughout the school year. Your childs Learning Journal is also a way for parents and teachers to stay connected. Each week there will be updates and information on what your child has done in class in the form of written comments, photos and/or an activity that has been done. Please feel free to add your comments and/or photos of what your child is doing at home. Also any communication with the teacher may be done through the Learning Journals.
Reminders: Security badges must be worn at all times whilst in school premises. The Library is open to parents from 8-8:30 and from 3-3:30 for you to borrow and change books. A Book bag is needed and this can be purchased from the uniform shop. We love celebrating birthdays! Please do remember to come in only at 11:00/2:30 and only please bring just a cake. Please ensure that your childs teacher is made aware of any allergies and possible medications your child needs. For children with fever, they need to stay home 24 hours after their fever has gone. If your child has vomited or has diarrhea they need to be symptom free and eating normally 48 hours after the last incident. If your child is sick please call the school or email the teacher. Please let us know what the illness is. Likewise, you will be called immediately after the school nurse has confirmed it if your child needs to go home. Please make sure that your contact information is up to date. If there are any changes please inform the school and your childs teacher immediately. Please use the main building and the covered walkway when coming to the Toddler House.
We have an exciting year ahead of us and we cant wait to get started!
