(Quarter-tone scale)
Arrows pointing up or down in main accidental symbols stand for mi-
crotonal bending of pitch (approximately 1/8 of a tone).
Normal lip-position
Fully cover the mouthpiece hole with the lips
Strong lip pressure
Medium lip pressure
Weak (almost non) lip pressure
Full closed mouth (no lip pressure at all)
Lips barley touch the mouthpiece letting residual noise pas-
sing through both lip-sides
Lips stand away of the mouthpiece (1 - 1.1/2) but air column
still flowing through the mouthpiece hole
Lips and flowing air column have no contact at all with mouth-
piece
White triangle note-head stands for eolian voiceless sound
(breathing or air sound). If not fingering is given, use fundamental / first
position.

Breathing is related to the shape of the triangle note-head:

Inhaling
Exhaling

As in palm
As in front
Voiced and voiceless sounds are emitted using different mouth/lip positi-
on/cavities:
As in beat
As in map
As in bank
As in book
Those vowels can be preceded by the phonemes:
As in shock
As in hotel but over-pressuring with the throat.

Black triangle note-head stands for voiced sound where the air
column in the throat encounters extreme resistance, thus causing the
sound to fluctuate unpredictably. If not fingering is given, use fundamen-
tal / first position.

Gradual transition between two states
Sudden transition between two states
Brief pause (between half a second and 1 second long)
Hold breath (between 1 and 2 seconds)
Moderate Pause (between 2 and 4 seconds)
Long Pause (between 4 and 8 seconds)
Extra-long Pause (between 8 and 12 seconds)
As-long-as-possible (at least 12 seconds long)

Metric and proportional notation are used consistently. For non-metric
events, duration of sound is indicated with a bold line after note-head.
Some metric patterns imply broken or incomplete tuplets, where the
reminder of the beat subdivision is left when moving to the following
beat.
In iterative rhythmic configurations each stem indicates an attaack:
General duration and phrasing of the events are ultimately determined
by individual reaction upon the given material.

Fluttering:

This piece requires a special interaction with stage light. To facilitate light-
ing control, the performer should have one on/off switch pedal and a fade-in/
out pedal on stage. There are two possible light settings: 1) light projects
from backstage through a film-screen or, 2) light directionally illuminates the
player from above. The first light setting must be preferred:
Body actions on the score must be read in mirror form.
Ideally, this work should be memorized but if read, the score is placed on a
side music stand without visually obstructing the players body. No other
objects (except for light control pedals) should be on stage.

Whip-effect Sharply shake the flute through the air in order to get a short and loud buzzing sound. Each note-head (or stem) indicates a single movement and its resulting sound
Throat yelling Voiced sound produced by keeping extreme tension on the throat while releasing a dense air stream; extreme low and high inharmonic pitches should result
