1. Likely focus question for Action Research/ School Improvement
How can ICT enhance teaching and learning in the core subjects
2. How the schools have identified this school improvement action research project.
This was first identified through a review of the curriculum and subject planning. Following this, it was discussed with staff, the SLT and the children. It was further identified through staff appraisals and questionnaires focused around needs for ICT training and development and in an action plan written by the schools ICT Coordinator.
3. Anticipated impact on the learning outcomes for children.
The impact of this project is expected to be considerable and sustained. Some areas of this proposal have already been trialled informally in a classroom setting and have lead to a number of clear outcomes for the children already. Through the project as a whole it is believed that outcomes will include:
Sustained concentration and increased involvement in class based input. The retention of knowledge and skills required for learning activities and to keep on task. An Increased knowledge of, and participation in, their own learning Opportunities for meaningful assessment. An engagement and ownership within the learning process. A progression of specific and focused ICT skills that are meaningful across the Curriculum.
4. The likely improvement in teaching pedagogy and its transferability to other areas of teaching and learning. The anticipated Improvements in classroom practice will include:
The up-skilling of teachers use of ICT to maximise classroom teaching and learning. The knowledge to select with confidence what ICT tools and techniques will increase learning opportunities for children. The confidence to use ICT meaningfully and creatively to deliver teaching and learning across the Curriculum. The knowledge and ownership of new pedagogical techniques and approaches using ICT to engage learners. The ability to adapt these techniques to use across subjects. A set of ICT skills and knowledge that fit with previous classroom practice, extend it and allow teachers to discriminate themselves between what is good and bad use of ICT. An extension of creative teaching and learning using ICT as a tool and not focus.
Finally, as part of this proposed project, it is also hoped that an online portal can be created to both document the project itself, but also act as an online centre for resources, techniques and approaches to teaching meaningfully and creatively with ICT. It is hoped that this can be shared with other schools and teachers in a focused and sustainable learning conversation. 5. Number of Middle Leaders likely to be involved in Training 1 6. The likely impact on the Middle Leaders chosen to develop the SIARPS.
The impact of this training will include the development of leadership skills within a rigorous training environment. The confidence and skills to lead further projects and other school based interventions in the future. The ability to identify and plan future school development needs more effectively. Along with an increase in the knowledge and skills needed to best work with, and lead, teams. 7. What cohesive links will be made to improve your Initial Teacher Training?
We have already had informal discussions regarding this proposal with other schools and have made potential links that could be made more formal if this proposal is accepted. We are already committed to providing INSET, Staff Training and time for monitoring and evaluation for this project and would like the opportunity to meaningfully share in this process with partner schools and institutions. We are also committed to working with other schools, and ITTs to share the learning of this project as well as the outcomes, resources that will stem from it. It is our hope that this will enable both teachers and learners outside of the initial partnership to benefit from it findings. All of this will help to improve our Initial Teacher Training, as will the ability to include teaching students and other adult learners that we are lucky to work with at our school.
The Schools are: Commited to provide INSET, Staff Training and time for monitoring, evaluation and dissemination of the SIARPs. This should at least equate to the level of funding provided by the Teaching School. Committed to work with other schools, setting up processes to assist shared learning. Prepared to open the project to Improving Schools should this be of assistance to them. Committed to share the outcomes, resources develop and data of the project for the benefit of all children and teachers in the partnership and through NCSL.
The Teaching School will: Provide accredited Middle Leadership Training Will pay schools (amount to be finally decided by Steering on the 13 th
June but likely to be 2-3K) in three termly instalments through the usual DPSCITT allocations system. The final payment will only be paid once the Middle Leader(s) has delivered their final impact report Signed: Project School !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..
