Visual Arts Class Objectives/ Aims:
G2 Visual Arts class at BIBA will help students develop life-long passion for arts. Students will develop a deeper understanding of art
making, process of art making, purpose of art, art history and how our daily lives are closely related to arts.

Learning Goals (California States Visual Arts Standards):
1. Understand repetition and balance in nature, environment and works of art
2. Identify the elements of art in nature, the environment and works of art focusing on line, color, shape/form, texture and space
3. Demonstrate beginning skills in basic tools and art-making processes.
4. Demonstrate beginning skill in oil pastel, watercolors and tempera
5. Depict the illusion of space by using overlapping shapes, relative size and placement
6. Paint a picture using warm and cool colors
7. Use bilateral or radial symmetry to create visual balance
8. Identify and discuss how art is used in events and celebrations in various cultures, past and present, including the use in their
own lives.
9. Use vocabulary to describe art objects from various time periods and cultures
10. Understand different types of art (prints, ceramics, paintings)

Course outline:
Art projects are designed to focus on understanding and learning process, not on the final artwork. Performance tasks may change
depending on different situations to offer students the best learning experiences and opportunities to develop their skills and
understanding. Art projects will include studying art history and influential artists, discussing works of art using arts specific
vocabulary (the elements of art and principles of design), creating an original work of art using various materials, tools and medium,
expressing personal thoughts and emotions through artwork, and evaluating students own work and peers work.
