Before I entered Pasadena City College as a student, I had a week attending its orientation in the first week of

July. I had a wonderful time during orientation, and also started to know many new things that I have never experience
before. For a new student like me, the orientation gave me a lot of information that I need to know when officially
coming as college student.

On the first day, all of the international students started to meet and greet with each other in Creveling, asking
each other about their background and educational past. Then, we were broke into tutor groups, and I felt lucky to be in
a group of one of the greatest tutor. My first impression about her was she is nice, friendly and active. After that, we had
an activity called Scavenger Hunt, which we had to go around the campus to collect necessary information. By that, I
got to know some significant buildings like library, bookstore, learning center, transfer center and so on. On the next
day, I experienced one of the funniest activities in the orientation. We were divided into groups, each group read one of
five classroom rules and left the comments for that. After that, each group went around and also left the comments for
other groups rules. Some comments sounded fun, but they let us have to think about them. On Wednesday, we were
introduced to PCCs health insurance, and how to take care of ourselves. Then we went to computer lab for introducing
LancerPoint and Canvas, which are important to all student in here. We learnt how to use it properly, and tried to do
some exercises via Canvas. I know that I have to check these two frequently to update the homework due or important
announcement that cannot be missed. On Thursday, we had a small tour around the library. This is where I can study or
relax between two classes. I was surprised because there were so many books in many topics, and I think they will
somehow help me with future research projects or essays. Im wondering why in this semester, the library doesnt allow
us to bring food, while when I had orientation, we could bring food but not in the computer lab downstairs only. On
Friday, there were some presentation of all the clubs in PCC, and after that, we were asked to go outside to ask the
leaders for more information. Last but not least, the Police department of the campus gave us some advice of being safe
while in the campus, and I think they are very useful. In the afternoon, after having orientation, we were told to have to
attend at least five elective workshops to maintain in PCC. I chose Housing, Higher Edu. In The US, Maximizing Your
GPA, Surviving the 1
st
week at PCC and e-Portfolio. During all the workshop, the lecturers mentioned about our
situation and problems, and gave us some solutions to deal with. Up to now, I still use some of their advice to apply for
my problems, and they really worked.

During orientation, I met some of interesting people, and it was nice to know them. First of all, I met two friends
who went to the same high school with me, and we accidentally had the same two classes, College 1 and ESL 33A.
Then, when breaking into groups, my tutors name is Lea, and she was really nice to us. All five days, she tried to make
us active and also answering some of our groups wonders. On second day, we met the counselors when we registered
for class. They gave us lots of advice when choosing classes, it has to 12 units, get required class and still fit our
educational goal. I remembered getting too many classes and they said I needed to drop at least one class, because I am
just first-semester freshmen. The most useful resource in PCC is the library, because it is not too far from my
classrooms, has less noise and is the great place to study. Also, it has many books so I hopefully can use some of them
for future research paper.

I has discovered many thing during PCCs orientation, and none of them are useless for me until now. First two
weeks in PCC have been successful because I have used the information gained to deal with my problems. That is a
reason why I choose Pasadena City College among other colleges.
