HOW IS THE

REPRESENTATION OF
AGE CONSTRUCTED IN
THIS VIDEO?
Nathan, Harry and Alex
CAMERA SHOTS
The first shot the viewer sees is an extreme long shot, this
establishes the location ( A mansion) and the atmosphere the
video is set in. The state (Dirty, littered, etc...) of the location gives
a sense of age.
There is then a long shot so the viewer can further familiarize
themselves with the characters, this really gives them a sense of
age.
Following the long shot there is a close up of a few objects on the
table, this shot sets the theme for the rest of the short film, it
establishes the characters as relatively immature.
EDITING
In the video at 00:23 it cuts to a close up this is so the viewer
focuses in on the boys stealing phones and some jewelry which
suggests immaturity and lack of responsibility both of which are
common traits in young boys, thus representing age. At 00:26 it
returns to the original long shot, this gives the viewer a sense of
place.
At 00:36 the director has chosen a two shot, this expresses their
relationship with each other which in this circumstance is love.1
At 00:37 the video cuts to a POV (Point Of View) shot, this makes
the viewer feel almost as if they are a part of the action, this gives
the impression that the viewer becomes a teenager and as
member of the party.
CAMERA MOVEMENTS
At 00:38 The director uses a handheld camera technique to
create a sense of excitement and instability (Drunk), as this is a
party, young people usually get drunk at parties, thus representing
age
