WHAT IS MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT..???
MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT IS THE ALIGNMENT OF THE FEEDHORNS OF TWO
ANTENNAS FACING EACH OTHER & ESTABLISHING A LINE OF SIGHT
MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT & PROCEDURE

RX LEVEL
CHART COMMON FOR ALL TYPE OF MICROWAVES
-30dBm to -20dBm
-40dBm to -30dBm
-65dBm to -55dBm
-83dBm to -77dBm
-110dBm to -90dBm
CRITICAL RX LEVEL
RECEIVE SECTION MAY BE FAULTY
BEST RX LEVEL
AVERAGE RX LEVEL
STABLE ALIGNED CASE
FLUCTUATIONS MAY BE IN RX LEVEL
THRESHOLD LEVEL
COMMUNICATION MAKES/BREAKS
NO ALIGNMENT
JUST INSTALLED CASE

SOME STEPS WHICH MUST BE KEPT IN MIND BEFORE PERFORMING
MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT:-

1.) THERE MUST BE TWO TEAMS REQUIRED ONE AT NEAR END & OTHER AT FAR END
2.) BOTH TEAMS MUST CARRY :-
MULTIMETER
LAPTOP HAVING SUITABLE SOFTWARE
MOBILE
OTHER TOOLS
TO MEASURE THE RX LEVEL IN VOLTS
TO PROVIDE FREQUENCY & MEASURE POWER
IN dBm
TO CONVERSE WITH OTHER TEAM
MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT & PROCEDURE

THERE ARE TECHNICALLY 4 MW MOVEMENTS :-

MW ANTENNA 1
MW ANTENNA 2
1.) HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
2.) HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
3.) VERTICAL ALIGNMENT 4.) VERTICAL ALIGNMENT
IMPORTANT NOTE:-
ALIGNMENT MUST BE CARRIED OUT AT ONE SITE ONLY
WE MUST USE ONLY ONE ALIGNMENT MOVEMENT AT A TIME

HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
VERTICAL ALIGNMENT
1.) FREE HAND ALIGNMENT
2.) NORMAL ALIGNMENT
3.) FINE TUNING
1.) FREE HAND MOVEMENT MAY BE
PRESENT OR NOT DEPENDS ON
OPERATOR
2.) NORMAL ALIGNMENT
3.) FINE TUNING
NUTS/BOLTS RELATED TO HORIZONTAL
ALIGNMENT ARE REMOVED COMPLETELY
NUTS/BOLTS ARE NOT COMPLETELY
REMOVED
CARRIED WITH THE HELP OF SPANNER
SPANNER IS USED ONLY FOR REMOVING
NUTS/BOLTS
SAME AS HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
SAME AS HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
SAME AS HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
EXPERT WORK VERY FINE MOVEMENTS
OF SPANNER IS MUST

PROCEDURE TO CARRY OUT MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT
STEP 1: MAKE A CALL TO OTHER TEAM POSITIONED AT OTHER END
STEP 2: START WITH HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
LOOSEN ALL THE NUTS/BOLTS RELATED TO HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
OF CURRENT MW BUT OTHER NUTS/BOLTS MUST BE LOCKED
THEN BRING THE MW ANTENNA TO ONE SIDE COMPLETELY
& NOTE DOWN THE RX LEVEL PEAKS..
AFTER THAT BRING MW ANTENNA TO THE OTHER SIDE COMPLETELY AGAIN NOTE
DOWN RX LEVEL PEAKS.

RX LEVEL IN dBm
MAIN LOBE
MAIN LOBE
BEST RX LEVEL IS RECEIVED WITH MAIN LOBE ALIGNED OF BOTH ANTENNAS
GRAPH SHOWS MAX RX
LEVEL IN THE MAIN LOBE
MAX RX LEVEL
MAX RX LEVEL
GRAPH SHOWS MAX
RX LEVEL IN SIDE LOBE
09-09-2014 MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT & PROCEDURE 9
STEP 3: WHEN U GET THE MID LOBE OR MAIN LOBE DECREASE ITS RANGE OF MOTION

HORIZONTAL FREE HAND ALIGNMENT IS OVER
STEP 4: START WITH NOW HORIZONTAL NORMAL MOVEMENT ,THIS IS DONE WITH
THE HELP OF SPANNERS
& WE GOT THE MAIN LOBE
AFTER THIS NORMAL ALIGNMENT RX LEVEL WILL INCREASE A BIT
THROUGHOUT HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT VERTICAL ALIGNMENT NUTS/BOLTS
OF CURRENT SITE & HORIZONTAL & VERTICAL NUTS/BOLTS OF OTHER SITE
MUST BE LOCKED/TIGTENED PROPERLY
09-09-2014 MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT & PROCEDURE 10
STEP 5: NOW WE WILL TIGHTEN THE HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT NUTS/BOLTS PROPERLY
STEP 6: LOOSEN THE NUTS /BOLTS RELATED TO VERTICAL ALIGNMENT
STEP 7: PERFORM FREE HAND ALIGNMENT & NORMAL ALIGNMENT JUST LIKE
IN THE CASE OF HORIZONTAL CASE.
STEP 8 : NOW, THIS IS THE BEST FROM OUR SIDE
DONT FORGET TO CHECK THE LINK B/W FAR END & NEAR END WHETHER THE LINK
IS ESTABLISHED WITH REQUIRED MW OR WITH SOME OTHER MW ANTENNA:-

SWITCH OFF NEAR END MW, IF RX LEVEL AT FAR END SIDE DECREASES GOOD ELSE
IF RX LEVEL REMAINED SAME THENFAR END IS LINKED SOME OTHER MW
SWITCH OFF FAR END MW,IF RX LEVEL AT NEAR END DECREASES GOOD,ELSE PROBLEM
09-09-2014 MICROWAVE ALIGNMENT & PROCEDURE 11
STEP 9: THIS WHOLE PROCESS WILL BE CARRIED OUT AT OTHER SITE AS WELL
IMP. NOTE:- IT MUST BE REMEMBERED THAT IF HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT IS CARRIED
OUT AT NEAR END THEN FAR END MUST ALSO EMPLOY THIS ALIGNMENT NOT THE
OPP. ONE.
STEP 10: THIS SEQUENCE OF ALIGNMENT MUST BE PERFORMED TILL
WE REACH 10 dBm IN RX LEVEL

AT THIS RX LEVEL , WE WILL PERFORM VERY FINE MOVEMENTS
& IT IS CALLED FINE TUNING
ALWAYS CARRY OUT ALIGNMENT BY MEASURING RX LEVEL IN VOLTS IN MULTIMETER
& FINALISE ALIGNMENT BY MEASURING POWER IN dBm IN PC
