This year I want to lead a structured and invigorating class that will encourage active engagement and a thirst for knowledge. I intend to make the classroom a safe place in which my students feel comfortable engaging in literary, mathematical, science, social studies conversation and experience confidence in asking questions in class regarding the subject matter. This means giving consistent praise to encourage the positive environment I want. This also means encouraging positivity through incentives for good behavior and good performance individually as well as class-wide. I will meet my students on their own levels, while still providing challenging and rigorous academic content and valuing high standards. I envision my students knowing they have the agency to control their progress and achievement in the class. I will encourage this mindset by producing a strong line of communication and providing/receiving constructive feedback between the students, and the parents. I will set clear expectations and consequences in the classroom and will also encourage the students to offer feedback to me regarding their concerns, questions, and ideas. I want to push the idea of urgency, achievement, and positivity within the classroom. There is no limit to learning and my students will want to learn and achieve their goals! Academic Growth Goals I am not sure of the academic goals for the students because some are SPED. I will meet the students and find out using reading levels, and pre-assessments for math, science, and social studies.
Personal Growth Goals In addition to the academic growth goals, it is important that our students develop an ownership of their education, and a passion for learning that will allow them to succeed in school becoming critical thinkers.
Developing an ownership of their education includes motivated students to be invested in their education. In order to develop this sense of ownership: Students will connect class concepts to their lives and to real-world situations in the surrounding community. Students will actively participate and ask questions in class daily. Students will work together, help each other, and learn from each other. Students will have 90% attendance throughout school year. Students will work with their teachers to actively take steps towards reaching their growth goals (one on one.) Students will be punctual and prepared.
