Background
Human being need entertainment in their life and
movies serve as a kind of entertainment.
Not of all Indonesian master English, so translation
holds an important role.
There are some genre if movies, such as horror, action,
drama, comedy, etc.
Through movies we can learn many things.
Slang language is one a kind of challenge that need a
special strategy to translated.
It is not easy to translate slang and it its translation
process the meaning can be loss or different.
The thesis trying to analysis the accuracy and
naturalness of translation of slang in a movie.


Formulation Of Problems
1. Is there any difference between an English
translation of Tropic Thunder English subtitle and its
Indonesian Subtitle in terms of naturalness and
accuracy?
2. Is it possible to achieve both naturalness and
accuracy in slang language translation?

Objectives of Research
1. To find any difference between an English translation
of Tropic Thunder English subtitle and its
Indonesian Subtitle in terms of naturalness and
accuracy
2. To find the possible way to achieve both naturalness
and accuracy in slang language translation.
Starring By Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr.,Jack
Black, and Tom Cruise
Tropic Thunder is a 2008 American action comedy
film co-written, co-produced, directed by, and co-
starring Ben Stiller. The film also co-stars Robert
Downey, Jr. and Jack Black. The main plot revolves
around a group of spoiled actors who are making a
fictional Vietnam War film. When their frustrated,
the director decides to drop them in the middle of a
jungle, they are forced to rely on their acting skills in
order to survive the real action and danger.



Literature Review
Kridalaksana in linguistic dictionary (2000:20) defines
slang as non formal style that is used by young people or
particular social class to communicate internally as an
effort in order to make other people do not understand,
both of by adding new vocabularies or changing existing
words.
In his article entitled Perceived authenticity: The fourth
criterion of good translation, Andersen (1998) proposes
that the fourth criterion for a good translation in addition
to accuracy, clarity and naturalness.
According to Larsen, accuracy, clarity and naturalness are
well-known criteria for an objective evaluation of a
translation. (Larsen 2001:40)

According to Shuttleworth and Cowie (1997), accuracy
is a term used in translation evaluation to refer to the
degree of correspondence between the translated and
original text. According to Larson (1984), accuracy in
representing the meaning of the original text and
using natural idiomatic expressions in the receptor
language are the primary goals of the translator.
Khomeijani Farahani (2005) defines naturalness as the
extent to which a work of translation sounds natural in
the target language.

Data Analysis
ST:
Whiskey Fire Old Snake requests an LZ prep... At Alpha-

TT:
Whiskey Fire Old Snake meminta izin pendaratan di AP
2489, ganti.

Analysis:
The translator give addition information in order to match
the language daily use in Indonesia. The accuracy of the
translation is good and it is sound like Indonesian word.


ST:
Delivery on five. I repeat, delivery on five.
TT:
Bersiap menyerang, kuulangi, bersiap menyerang.

Analysis:
The translator use free translation in order to make the
phrase become more natural for Indonesian. the
accuracy is good because the term is match both in
English and Indonesia.

ST:
This is Zero-Three. I'm on your six, don't worry.

TT:
Di sini 03. Aku di sebelah kanan, jangan khawatir.

Analysis:
The translator used free translation to fit the Indonesian daily
used language. The ST and TT do not have any accuracy
because the translator used the image in the film.
