Course Procedures & Policies-Carrick

I. MATERIALS
a. Exprsate textbook (Level 2-blue)
b. Cuaderno de Vocabulario y Gramtica Practice Book (blue)
c. 3 Subject Notebook (recommended)
d. 2-Pocket Folder (recommended)
e. Paper bag to cover textbook (*One-Time Grade)
f. Internet access to http://www.carrickspanishclass.weebly.com

II. HOMEWORK
a. Will be assigned 3-4 times a week; there will frequently be homework assigned
over weekends-the assignments will be explained during class, but also posted
ONLINE.
b. Homework is worth 25% of the grade.
c. In the grade book, homework assignments will be labeled with the following
letters to reflect the focus of the assignment:
L listening
S speaking
R reading
W writing
d. Absences: The student must contact me either via email or complete the ONLINE
Homework Request Form.
e. Late Work: An assignment is considered late if turned in any time after the
teacher requests it and physically collects it. This also applies if students are seen
doing their homework after the class period bell rings. Late work is accepted up to 2
weeks after the due date for credit of earned points.
*If there are special circumstances, the student or parent must discuss this with me
one-on-one, with a note or with an email.

III. CLASSWORK
a. Classwork is 15% of the grade.
b. Participation is 10% of the grade. Participation is negatively affected by refusal to
answer/contribute, rarely-never volunteering, not contributing to partner/group

work and/or being off-task. Students will be given a participation grade weekly.
b. Daily Warm-Ups- Each day the students will have a Warm-Up to start working
on when the bell rings. The activity is reviewed in class after most students have
finished. Students correct their own and will be called on to participate each day
during this timethe scoring is based on completion; however, what the students
put into it, they will get out of it! These are worth 5-10 points each and will be
collected often, but not each day.
c. Other in-class activities will be labeled with the following letters to reflect the
focus of the activity:
L listening
S speaking
R reading
W writing
c. Absences (See HOMEWORK section d.)
d. Late Work Although there should be ample time for a student to complete an
in-class activity, sometimes extended time is requested by a student and because
he/she has proven to have put forth optimum effort during class, an extension will
be given.

IV. TESTS & QUIZZES
a. For both quizzes and tests, students will be given an outline of topics assessed,
not a study guide. Review will take place in the classroom and/or in an after school
session.
b. If a student doesnt finish an assessment within the class period, they may get an
ACCESS pass to complete the assessment ONLY if they have minimal amount to
complete. (In other words, the student hasnt skipped multiple sections because
they need to review more.)
c. Students may not individually re-take a test or quiz; however, they may come
in to review the assessment with the teacher for 5 points added to their score.
d. Quizzes and projects 25% of the grade.
e. Tests are 25% of the grade.

V. NO-NAME PAPERS
a. Any papers turned in with no name will be put in a designated file folder for
approximately a week and then they will be recycled.

VI. EXTRA CREDIT
a. Extra credit opportunities will be sporadic; however, they are offered to each and
every student. It will not be offered to just one individual student, especially if extra
credit is asked for simply to raise a grade at a crucial point in the school year.

VII. BEHAVIOR

a. If a student is insubordinate, then I will speak with the student after class about
his/her motivation to misbehave and strategies to try to correct the behavior.
b. If the student continues to be insubordinate, removal from the classroom may be
necessary and the parents will be contacted.
c. Upon the next offense, if this is the case, then a referral will be completed and the
student will be sent to the Deans office to determine further consequences.

d. The students are NOT allowed to sleep in my class!
