Language Arts-

We will continue with
Houghton Mifflin and read
Mrs. Brown Goes to Town.
The Comprehension Toolkit
will also be used to:

-Ask and answer questions as
who, what, where, when,
why and how to demonstrate
understanding of key details.
-Use information gained from
the illustrations and words to
demonstrate understanding
of its characters, setting, or
plot.
-Know and use various text
features to locate key facts or
information in a text
efficiently.
-Distinguish long and short
vowels when reading
regularly spelled one-syllable
words.

Math-
We will continue our 1
st

investigation unit: Counting,
Coins & Combinations. In
this unit, students will learn
about:

-Visualizing tens & counting
by tens.
-The structure of the number
system up to 100.
-Making sense of and
developing strategies for
addition.
-Knowing addition
combinations up to 10.
-Problem Solving Strategies
through CGI story
problems& Practice Forward
tasks
-Solve problems involving
dollar bills, quarters, dimes,
nickels, and pennies.
Writing-

We will write narratives
in which students recount an
elaborated event or short
sequence of events using
details and temporal words.

Science-

We will continue to provide
evidence from investigations
that things can be done to
materials to change some of
their properties.
Spelling-

Words will be sent home the
first day of each week.
Suggested at home activities
to use with the words are
attached to the newsletter.
These will prepare students
for the spelling assessment
given at the end of the week.
They do not need to be turned
in.

Spelling Homework Choices
Below are some suggested at home activities your son or daughter can do to practice their weekly spelling words.
1. Alphabetize
2. Make a set of flash cards to study your words.
3. Use a hyphen to divide each word into syllables.
4. Write sentences using the words.
5. Write a synonym (same) for each word.
6. Write an antonym (opposite) for each word.
7. Write a definition for 5 of your words.
8. Make a word search.
9. Type your words 3 times each.
10. Write a paragraph using at least 5 of your words.
11. Write a friendly letter using at least 5 of your words.
12. Write riddles for at least 5 of your words.
13. Write tongue twisters using at least 5 of your words.
14. Hide your words in a picture.
15. Write each word and circle the vowels.
