I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back for the 2014/2015 school year and introduce myself, as I am new to Prince Edward. My name is Mlle St. Pierre and I am very pleased to be teaching French at Prince Edward. I look forward to spending the year with your child. The core French program is designed to develop a range of essential skills in reading, writing, and oral language, including foundation in spelling and grammar. The students receive instruction in French for roughly 50 minutes four times a week. During instructional time, there is a strong emphasis on developing oral communication skills. Students are encouraged to apply themselves actively on a consistent basis. It is my goal to motivate and provide a supportive environment which will encourage students efforts in communicating in French and taking risks in using the language. Students are encouraged to become responsible and independent learners. This will involve recording assigned work/tests in their agenda, completing and returning assignments on time, and reviewing work diligently. Each student will be assessed according to the expectations in The Ontario Curriculum: French as a Second Language-Core French by using 4 levels of achievement: Speaking; Listening; Reading; and Writing. Evaluation will take place through a variety of methods such as classroom assignments, dialogues, oral presentations, and daily participation as well as reading and written assessments. The report card marks in FSL will be based on oral communication, reading and writing. Please express an interest in your childs French learning as much as possible. Encourage review and completion of assignments. Sign tests and rubrics. Reinforce the value of second-language learning. Your positive feedback is important to your childs approach to learning a new language. Together, we can help your child experience a very successful and rewarding year.
