Hello First Grade Families-

My name is Ms. Ashley Estes and I want to welcome you and your child to the
First Grade! I just wanted to take this time to introduce myself and discuss what you
should look forward to this year. This 2014-2015 school year is my third year
teaching First Grade at St. Elizabeth Seton. Joining me this year in the classroom is
Ms. Sia. She not only works in First Grade, but she is also involved in after-school
extended care. We are both so thrilled and blessed to be teaching and working with
your child this year.
Here are a few expectations that we have of our first graders. We expect
them to always come to school ready to learn. This involves a healthy and filling
breakfast to start the day off right. Remember, breakfast is provided here at school
every morning until 7:45. If your child does not receive breakfast, they will have to
wait until 10am to get snack. If you are providing snacks and lunches for your
children, please consider healthy and balanced foods. Tardiness has been a concern
in the past few years at Seton and we are doing our best to make sure all students
come to school on time. Please read the Parent Handbook to read about the
consequences of continual tardiness. I have told the students to help at home by
packing lunch and laying out clothes the night before so the morning can go as
smooth as possible.
Every month, I will be writing a newsletter so I am able to communicate what
goes on in our classroom and important announcements to you. Please take the time
to read both the First Grade newsletter and the school newsletter for important
information. Most students receive the Thursday envelopes from the school that
includes newsletters and other school news and these are expected to be brought
back to school the next day. Friday Folders are also a way I communicate. Each
student has a Friday Folder that is given to the students on Thursdays and must be
signed and returned on Fridays.
This week the students received their first homework assignment, the
weekly reading log. Every night each student is expected to read for at least 15
minutes and fill out the reading log paper. Next week the students will receive their
first homework packet. All homework is given on Monday and is expected to be
turned in on that Friday.
Finally, a quick reminder that Back-to-School night is Wednesday, September
17th at 7pm. I look forward to seeing and meeting all of you there! We will be
discussing classroom expectations and answering any questions you may have.
This is going to be a great year and we are here to help your child be a

Hola Primer Grado Familias-
Mi nombre es la seora Ashley Estes y quiero dar la bienvenida a usted ya su
nio al primer grado! Slo quera aprovechar este momento para presentarme y
hablar de lo que debe mirar hacia adelante a este ao. Este ao escolar 2014-2015
es mi tercer ao de enseanza de primer grado en el St. Elizabeth Seton. Me Unirse a
este ao en el saln de clases es la Sra Sia. Ella no slo funciona en el primer grado,
pero ella tambin est involucrada en la atencin prolongada despus de la escuela.
Los dos estamos tan emocionado y bendecido al estar enseando y trabajando con
su hijo este ao.
Aqu hay algunas expectativas que tenemos de nuestros alumnos de primer grado.
Esperamos que vengan siempre a la escuela listos para aprender. Se trata de un
desayuno saludable y abundante para empezar el da con buen pie. Recuerde, el
desayuno se ofrece aqu en la escuela todas las maanas hasta las 7:45. Si su nio no
recibe el desayuno, tendrn que esperar hasta las 10 am para llegar merienda. Si
usted est proporcionando refrigerios y almuerzos para sus hijos, por favor
considere los alimentos sanos y equilibrados. La tardanza ha sido motivo de
preocupacin en los ltimos aos en Seton y estamos haciendo todo lo posible para
asegurarse de que todos los estudiantes vienen a la escuela a tiempo. Por favor, lea
el Manual para Padres de leer acerca de las consecuencias de la tardanza continua.
Le he dicho a los estudiantes para ayudar en casa empacando el almuerzo y
preparar la ropa la noche anterior por lo que el maana pueda ir lo ms suave
posible.
Cada mes, voy a escribir un boletn de noticias, as que soy capaz de comunicar lo
que pasa en nuestro saln de clases y anuncios importantes para usted. Por favor,
tmese el tiempo para leer tanto el boletn de Primer Grado y el boletn de la escuela
para obtener informacin importante. La mayora de los estudiantes reciben los
sobres jueves de la escuela que incluye boletines y otras noticias de la escuela y se
espera a ser devuelto a la escuela al da siguiente. Carpetas Viernes son tambin una
manera de comunicarme. Cada estudiante tiene una carpeta viernes que se da a los
estudiantes de los jueves y debe ser firmado y devuelto los viernes.
Esta semana los alumnos recibieron su primera tarea, el registro de lectura semanal.
Cada noche se espera que cada estudiante lea por lo menos 15 minutos y rellene el
papel diario de lectura. La prxima semana los estudiantes recibirn su primer
paquete de tarea. Toda la tarea se da el lunes y se espera que sea entregado ese
viernes.
Por ltimo, le recordamos que la Noche de Regreso a la Escuela es el mircoles, 17
de septiembre a las 7 pm. Espero poder ver y conocer a todos ustedes all! Vamos a
discutir las expectativas del aula y responder a cualquier pregunta que pueda tener.
