GEOGRAPHY
Sri Lanka is an island nation located off the southern
coast of India in South Asia.

Sri Lanka is bordered by the Indian Ocean, the Gulf
of Mannar in the Laccadive Sea, and the Palk Strait,
which separates Sri Lanka from India.

Sri Lanka is situated to the southwest of the Bay of
Bengal.


CULTURE/SOCIETY
Language: Sinhala/Tamil.

Religion: Buddhism and Hinduism.

Buddhists believe that people have several lives.

Hinduism has two beliefs.

Sri-Lankans are concerned with social order and are very
religious.

ADMINISTRATION
Sri Lanka is separated into nine Provinces and 25
Districts, which are all administered by an elected
Provincial Council.

1. Western Province
2. Central Province
3. Southern Province
4. Northern Province
5. Eastern Province
6. North Central Province
7. North Western Province
8. Sabaragamuwa Province
9. Uva Province
ARCHITECTURE
The architecture of Sri Lanka exhibitions a rich variety of
architectural forms and styles.
Buddhism had a major influence on Sri Lankan
architecture.
But most techniques and styles developed in Europe and
the Asia have also played a major role in the architecture of
Sri Lanka.
Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya is the most ancient Temple
for the Buddhists near Colombo.

TRADE AND COMMERCE
The EU is Sri Lanka's largest export destination,
absorbing 36% of its exports.

Textiles and clothing account for more than half of Sri
Lankas export value with machinery, rubber-based goods,
jewellery and agricultural products making up for the rest.

Sri-Lanka is also a member of the World Trade
Organization.
ECONOMY
The country's economy was traditionally based on
agriculture, which now contributes less than 20% to the
gross domestic product.

Sri-Lankan economy emphasizes on the export of crops
such as tea and rubber.
Cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, cloves, nutmeg,
citronella, tobacco, cocoa, and coffee are some things that
are exported.

Precious gems, mineral sands, clay, and limestone are
mined.
