BACK TO THE

FUTURE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

TO KNOW THAT WE DESIGN THINGS FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES AND USERS
TO EVALUATE PRODUCTS AND IDENTIY IDEAS TO USE IN OUR OWN WORK
TO MAKE LABELLED DIAGRAMS FROM DIFFERENT VIEWS SHOWING SPECIFIC FEATURES
DESIGN BRIEF
YOUR TASK IS TO DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT A PROTOTYPE OF HOLY NAME
SCHOOL FOR THE YEAR 2089
Student Name: Cettina & Anh Thy

Grade: 6M

Investigating:

Analysing the
situation

Considerations
What are some things
that have changed at
Holy Name school
over time? What will
be important in a
school of the future?
Think about
technology, space,
enrolments etc.

A lot of changes have been made to the
interior and exterior design such as the
basketball courts which were made out of
concrete, the First-Aid which had trees
and plants, the I.L.C which never existed,
Chickens behind the basketball courts and
we changed the subject music to
P.A/Performing Arts.

Bigger space for enrolments, students,
teachers and staff. Latest technology and
up to date furniture for classroom use.

Write a brief
Write a short
statement giving the
general outline of the
problem to be solved.

Our task is to create a school for 75 years
into the future (2089)

The only problem is the more enrolments
general outline of the problem is to build
more upwards or create an extension.

Research the
problem
Think about ways in
which your
considerations can
be
solved/accommodated
for. E.g. If you
decide that your
school needs space
for increasing
numbers, what are
some ways in which
you can create space?

We dont have enough space
Build up
Buy properties
We dont have enough money
Raise the enrolments
Reuse furniture
We dont have enough time
Only close off parts of the school one
at a time
Build and demolish over school holidays

Designing:

Write a
specification
This detailed
description of
the problem
spells out what
the design must
achieve and what
limitations will
affect the final
solution.

We are going to have:
1 level/story
16 classrooms (subjects and homerooms)
Latest technology
New vegie patches
New playground equipment
(slides monkey bars etc.)
Gymnasium (with gym and sport equipment)
Amphitheatre
(it will be big enough for all students.)
Work out
possible
solutions
Combine the
ideas from
your
investigation
to suggest
several
possible design
solutions.
Sketch several
possibilities on
paper.

Select a preferred solution

Producing:

Prepare
working
drawings and
construct a
prototype.
Draw, to scale,
detailed plans
of your new
school.

Question 4:

Modifying:
List and justify any modifications that you have made.

Write a Report:
Write a report that explains the process you followed to complete your
future school design. Reflect upon all the stages in the process and
justify your work. Discuss the investigating, planning, designing,
evaluating and modifying of your design.
