Whats Happening in Class What a wonderful start to our school year! We have been in school for 6 weeks now and I am so proud of the students. They are constantly showing their ESLRs and modeling leadership throughout the school. The students have been showing intelligence by asking questions in order to learn more about our Unit of Inquiry. They have been working hard to learn about cultures and also about our ever!changing Earth. In Social Studies they have learned about the elements that make up ones culture and about how people from di"erent cultures inuence one another. They have spent time in school and at home working on their Culture Project and I cannot wait to see them present this coming Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. In Science and Literacy they are continuing to analyze our Earth and what causes it to change. They students are reading many di"erent informational texts in order to ask questions and learn about our Earth. I am impressed with the knowledge that they have gained since the start of the unit, Waiting on the World to Change. Technology weaved in. Please talk to your students daily to nd out what they are learning about cultures and our Earth.

The students have been learning all about how our Earth can change due to Earth processes such as, erosion, weathering, and deposition. They have learned that our Earth is constantly changing in slowly and sometimes quickly due to weathering and erosion. We have also been discussing different landforms and how they are formed. The students are now working in groups of 3 to study a specic landform in China. Each group determined where the landform is located and then they planned how they would travel to that particular landform (train or plane). They calculated the costs and have determined how far it is from Qingdao. The students will be virtually visiting the landform over the next few weeks in order to become experts about that landform and the area surrounding it. I am very proud of the students for their hard work while researching landforms and learning more about our Earth. Please encourage your student to conduct more research at home and have them share their learning with you and your family.
