Environmental Services
Environmental Enforcement Specialist
Maricopa County
1483 Scottsdale Rd.
Scottsdale, AZ, 85257
Dear Hiring Professionals:
I am going to be a senior at Arizona State University next year. I am writing because I am interested in
applying for the Environmental Enforcement Specialist position that you are currently hiring for. I was browsing
through Jobing and came across this great opportunity. I realized that one of my good friends, Bobby Smith, works in
the same department, and convinced me to apply. I believe that my values and goals align with your companys vision
of protecting the environment and enforcing rules and regulations upon those that break those rules. I also believe
that the skills I have acquired will transition directly to this job including Mediation/negotiation, knowledge of state
regulations, and leadership skills developed in a managerial position.
Mediation/Negotiation
The negotiations that I regularly took part in during my time at ADT seem to fit in very well with the skills you are
looking for. I was faced with challenges daily that I had to overcome.
Territory Manager, ADT Home Security, Mesa, AZ
o Responsible for successfully negotiating the purchase and installation of ADT security systems
o Responsible for mediation/Negotiation of contracts with people from varying socioeconomic
backgrounds
o Conducted regular visits to peoples homes to mediate the ADT systems installation
Knowledge of State Regulations
The knowledge of local and state regulations that I acquired during my internship with the Mining and Minerals
Department will make it an easy transition in to this type of work.
Intern, Mining and Minerals Department, States of New Mexico and Arizona
o Responsible for oversight and regulatory review of hard rock mines
o Responsible for implementation of weekly projects to insure adherence to local and state regulations
o Conducted regular visits to mines throughout NM and AZ to measure compliance with state
regulations
Leadership Skills

Thompson 2
The leadership skills that I developed during my time as supervisor will come in handy when I am put in to a
leadership role. Having been responsible for a lot of people during stressful times I believe that I can stay cool under
pressure.
Supervisor, Jenny Craig Pavilion, San Diego, CA
o Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising of over 15 employees
o Responsible for directing over 20 employees at a time during sporting events
o Conducted regular employee reviews and implemented new rules
I believe that my coursework and work experience in environmental related fields will help the
Environmental Services department to attain its goals, and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss the
job position further. I will contact you before October 31
st
to discuss my application. If you wish to contact
me, I may be reached at 123-456-7890, or by email at Derek.m.thompson@asu.edu. You may also visit my
website for further information. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Derek Thompson
