2014 Avocado Half with Pit

Picture of real half avocado with pit.

3D Model of an avocado in
Inventor.
Avocado
Create Your own avocado half with a pit. Note that the
outer skin is represented by Black Asphalt. The green band
along the edge is Smooth Dark Forest Green, and the inner
part of the avocado is Yellow, the pit is Walnut Natural
Polish.

Strategy: The body of the avocado is a revolve for only 180
degrees. The pit is made by revolving an oval completely. To
create is part you will have to understand how to create a
perpendicular work plane, how to revolve, how to change the visual style to wire
frame and how to create an oval (ellipse).
1. Create a standard part in inches
2. Create a new 2D sketch
3. Draw two circles that are 1.0 inch apart on the horizontal. Put one the larger
circle on the Origin. The diameter of the larger circle is 1.50 (R0.750) and the
smaller circle 0.75 (R0.375) Draw a tangent line between the two circles. Draw a
horizontal line down the center. Delete the other half of the two circles so that
you have a drawing that looks like the one below. Click on finish sketch

4. Click on the Revolve icon in the 3D tab and set the Extents to 180 deg (shown
in red), Select the flat edge as the Axis of revolution and click OK. You should
have the shape of a half of an avocado.

5. On the View tab select the Visual Style icon and scroll down to Wireframe.
This will allow you to see the inside of the avocado. (Shown in Red)

6. In the Model Browser open the Origin folder by clicking on the plus sign next to
the folder to open it. Move your mouse on to each of the work planes until you
find a plane that cuts through the middle of the avocado lengthwise. (In my
example it is the YZ plane it could be different in your case.)Create a new 2D
sketch their and Use the Ellipse tool to draw an oval to represent the avocado pit.
The dimensions use are 0.908 in the major axis direction and 0.374 in the minor
axis direction (the minor axis is twice this amount or 0.748) Draw a line along the
long direction of the ellipse and delete half of the ellipse.

Click on finish sketch.

7. In the 3D Model tab click on Revolve icon and select the half oval shape as the
Profile and the flat side as the Axis and use a Extents of Full. And click OK

8. Go back to the View tab and
change the Visual Style back to
shaded. In the Model browser
window turn off the work plane
that is shown below.

9. Create a new 2D sketch on the flat face of the avocado and then touch the
outer edge of the avocado with the Offset tool. Move the offset direction inward
and create an outline around the edge of the
avocado. Click on finish sketch.

10. Extrude the outline area
to 0.01 and click OK.
Change the color to
represent the green flesh
part of the avocado.

11. Your finished avocado should look
something like this one.

Remember to change the color of the parts
of the avocado by right clicking on the
surface or the feature icon and changing the
Properties appearance.
