Scotlands Vote for Independence

By Toby Platt 9/24

Last Thursday, Scotland took a vote. They voted on their independence. If the majority of
Scotland's voters vote "Yes then Scotland would separate from the United Kingdom. 200 years ago,
Scotland couldn't have voted for their independence -- they would have to fight, just like America did.
If they separated, the UK would lose a major supply of oil that Scotland has access to. Scotland
would also lose funding for many science labs that are funded by things in London.

Most people had no idea what the result would be. Most young people wanted to start fresh and
build their country their own way, while most older people thought that their country would lose
money too quickly.

It was a very close vote -- 45% yes and 55% no. For better or worse, Scotland is still part of the
United Kingdom.
