How can parents help support an AVID child?
Parent support is crucial in the success of an AVID student. The following are
suggestions for how parents can assist their AVID child:

Provide a suitable place for homework to be completed.
Develop a routine schedule for homework time.
Ensure students are completing an average of 1-2 hours of homework daily (includes
assignments, projects, re-writing notes, studying, reading texts/novels, organizing binder,
re-reading notes, etc)
Provide the necessary school and project supplies.
Check homework for quality whenever possible--for example, students should show all
their work in math, present all assignments neatly, and rewrite any that need it.
Monitor master binder for organization (if paper is falling out, its time to organize)
Get involved. Attend Parent-Teacher Interviews and AVID Family Workshops (dates
TBA)
Communicate with your childs course teachers on a regular basis.
Encourage discussion about academic goals, education, and opportunities.
Plan appointments (dentist, doctor, etc.) outside of school hours whenever possible.
