In the process of making the teaching learning activities for poems, we have take three pedagogical principles of teaching young learners that is the element of age, interest and content. Firstly, in order to create a good teaching learning, it must be according to the pupils interest. The poems consist of simple and easy vocabularies which make it easier for the pupils to understand. As mention before, it is important to create activity that interests the pupils to learn. Considering the properties of the poems, we create activity that will enable the pupils can understand through acting and reciting the poems. Since the contents of the poem are quite suitable for the pupils, there shouldnt be problems for the pupils to recite a poem and act the poem as well. This activity can be done among the Year 1 Year 3 student for teaching poem to them at the very young age.
The second teaching and learning activities for young learner that we create is Listen and draw, also focusing on the same 3 pedagogical principles that have been mention earlier. The listening and drawing activities can actually have pupils attention in class instead of reading poems that the pupils can understand the meaning. Suitable for Year 1 Year 3, these activities gives the pupils freedom to express their creativity through drawing. This activity will actually gives teacher the idea of how their pupils way of thought when it comes to listening and how the pupils express themselves in their own way. Pupils will have the idea that every poems have character and story in it and they can express it through drawing too.
